This is a little ‘shack’ in the hills. It has a deck, a living room, a bathroom and sleeping loft. A group of melaleucas surrounding an outcrop of rocks formed the axis for the shack and its northerly outlook. To the west the rooms open up to detailed views of the landscape, views into the hill. To the east the rooms open up to the distant views of the landscape. It collects its own water and reuses the effluent it creates.
The site falls toward the east and was old dairy cattle farm. The ‘shack’ was sited at the edge of a cut in the land a previous owner had made. This maximised the use of the flat land for entertaining etc. A simple material palette of Australian hardwoods, galvanised steel, plywood, corrugated iron and corrugated polycarbonate was used.
The home was built by Jeff Sales and Justin Twohill will assistance from the owners.
